On a brisk November morning, employees of the Great Escape began a different type of work day. On November 13, Six Flags launched Project 6, the company’s first annual Day of Service. The staff participated in eight projects, all designed to assist local not-for-profit agencies.
Working in conjunction with the Tri-County United Way, who coordinated the work sites, employees utilized their individual talents and skills to work on projects at various organizations. As nonprofits struggle to provide services in this time of increased demand, the infusion of volunteer assistance was eagerly anticipated and much appreciated.
Volunteers were dispatched to: Prospect School; the Greater Glens Falls Senior Center; Moreau Community Center; Adirondack Samaritan Counseling Center; Double H Ranch; The Salvation Army; Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York; and Catholic Charities of Glens Falls. Projects included: staining; moving furniture; painting; raking; cleaning, and electrical work.
Barbara Sweet, Executive Director of the Tri-County United Way, thanked the Great Escape employees at an early morning kick-off breakfast at Johnny Rockets. She expressed, on behalf of the eight recipient organizations, the gratitude of the staffs and volunteers of the non-profits. With lean budgets and the need to limit expenditures on such projects as painting and electrical work, the volunteer assistance really impacts not only the agencies involved, but the public whom they serve. In these difficult economic times, she remarked, the importance and impact of volunteer service cannot be overstated.
